Samba Drumming and Musicianship
Current Sessions: Saturday, 10.15-11am, Southville (ages 4-8), Mondays, 4.45-5.30pm, Southville
In these sessions, children have the opportunity to work in a bigger group (max 24 children, maintaining a ratio of 1:8, teacher/child) to learn samba drumming with leading percussionist Catherine Ring, Helen Reid and Douglas Watts. In addition, children will work on activities from the Blackbird curriculum, learning about pitch, rhythm, dynamics and pulse, as well as music theory. The Blackbird curriculum contains over fifty specially-commissioned songs and is delivered by professional musicians. There are 5 levels which the children can work through, detailed in our section Music Foundation Classes. The Samba Drumming/Musicianship session will be followed by our new choir, for children aged 4-8, led by Douglas Watts (Bristol Show Choir) and Helen Reid (Blackbird EYM Founder, BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist). More details about the Choir can be found here. Children who stay for both sessions receive a snack during the 15 minute break.
The price is £14 for the whole morning/afternoon(musicianship session, snack and choir), £8 for Samba Drumming/Musicianship or £6 for choir only.
